When your physical, intellectual, and spiritual selves are working in union, your life becomes balanced. Practicing yoga gives you the ability to know all parts of yourself with compassion & awareness.

Here are more reasons why we can all benefit from a regular yoga and meditation practice:

  • Increases strength and flexibility
  • Increases range of motion in joints
  • Improves balance by strengthening your core
  • Decreases stress levels
  • Strengthens immunity
  • Improves digestion
  • Better circulation
  • Increases serotonin levels
  • Improves coordination, memory and reaction times through continued practice
  • Peace of mind

Some commonly asked questions:

What is Yoga?
The word Yoga means “union” in Sanskrit.  We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.  What is commonly referred to as “Yoga” can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word asana, which refers to the practice of physical postures.

Is Yoga a religion?
Yoga can be a spiritual practice, but it is not a religion.

How often should I take Yoga classes?
As often as you like?  Every day is a great day to do Yoga.

Should I eat before class?
It is recommended to practice on an empty stomach, or at least 2 1/2 hours after eating.  If you need to eat, eat lightly.

What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move easily in are best for Yoga.  Tank tops or T-shirts and stretchy pants work best.  Yoga is practiced barefoot.  When you arrive, you can change into your clothes in our Change Rooms.

What should I bring?
A Yoga mat, shawl or light blanket, and water bottle.  You may also want to bring a meditation cushion and towel.  You may rent a yoga mat or towel for $2 each or purchase any of these items in our boutique.

Which class should I take?
As a beginner, we suggest trying as many different styles and Teachers as possible.  Speak with our Teachers and Reception for more advice on what style is best for you.

Do I need to register in advance?
No.  Just come a few minutes early to check in at Reception and acquaint yourself with our Centre.  Enjoy a soothing cup of herbal tea in our Reception area.

What if I’m late for class?
Our classes are open to all latecomers.  We would prefer you get some practice rather than no practice.

Why should I practice at PranaShanti?
