Elissar Hanna
Elissar began her moving exploration through dance, at the tender age of 3 years. She danced through her childhood, adolescence and young womanhood, entering into the field of contemporary dance in Montreal after finishing University in Ottawa. It was in Montreal that she truly began to unfold the rich teachings of yoga, becoming immersed in the practice of Moksha Yoga, which supported her growth as dancer and strongly ignited her appetite for spiritual development.
After her second year of practicing Moksha, she decided to complete a teacher training. And a twist in a different direction took her from hot yoga, to the Sivananda Ashram in Val Morin, Québec for a month-long teacher training intensive. The training provided an in depth classical hatha yoga foundation along with vedic philosophy, chanting, anatomy, meditation, and karma yoga.
That year, returning to Montreal, she was hugely inspired by spirituality and she began to delve into teachings from the Sufi tradition, ‘the path of love’. She began a four year program at the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism, located in Pope Valley, California. These teachings enriched her yoga practice, beginning to unlock knowledge about the body & soul.
Now returned to Ottawa, Elissar is continuing her education in Sufism, returning to Pope Valley four times a year, as well as enriching her yoga education step by step. In December 2009, she completed a Joy in Powerflow Certificate. She aims to bring balanced vibrancy and vitality to the body, echoing into the hearts, minds and souls of her students.
“Our intention is to provide an oasis in the city.”
