About Us
Our Philosophy
PranaShanti offers a clean, fresh and beautiful environment for your Yoga practice. Designed by Architect Robert Martin and Associates, and a team of Interior Designers who have designed some of the Outaouais’ most beautiful interiors, such as Le Nordik Spa in Chelsea, Quebec, PranaShanti incorporates the latest in Yoga Centre and Spa décor with quality environmentally friendly material, fixtures and finishes.
Our intention at PranaShanti is to create an oasis in the
city of Ottawa. A home that heals your body, calms the mind and strengthens the spirit. From the moment you walk through the door, your Yoga practice begins. Hear the soothing sound of the waterfall, feel surrounded by the soft color palette and enjoy a delicious cup of Yogi Tea with your fellow yogis.
The PranaShanti Yoga Teachers bring a wealth of experience and offer the highest quality of teaching. Our Teachers come from all walks of life and backgrounds and share the vision of bringing the benefits of Yoga and Meditation from many different traditions to our community.
Our Reception Staff are open and happy to serve you. You will be warmly greeted by Elizabeth, Monica, Elissar, Lana and Celia.
We provide a soothing, healing atmosphere and a community where you can deepen your yoga practice. We encourage you to relax and take your time so you can leave feeling renewed by your overall experience.
We invite you to experience the PranaShanti difference.
Be well,

PranaShanti Community Involvement
PranaShanti Yoga Center truly represents the next evolution in sustainable businesses. While our classes, workshops and events promote health and wellness, we also encourage conscious living off the yoga mat through various special events and fundraisers dedicated to raising money and awareness around issues close to our hearts.
Every Sunday afternoon PranaShanti offers a Weekly Community Yoga Class by donation. This class is taught by volunteer certified Yoga Teachers either from PranaShanti or the community. A rotation of charities receives 100% of the donations collected from the class such as the local Food Bank, Harmony House Shelter for Battered Women, or a charity selected by the Teacher teaching that day.
PranaShanti contributes regularly to local fund raising events through donations raised and collected and the giving of Class Packages and Yoga Mats for Silent Auction bidding for organisations such as the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, Ottawa Friends for Peace, the Causeway, Canada Without Poverty, Ecology Ottawa, Kidney Foundation, Breast Cancer Awareness, Hintonburg 5K Race, Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation, LiveWorkPlay, and Tucker House.
Another initiative is the donation of our gently used rental Yoga Mats to groups looking to provide Yoga Classes to their local members. The Emily Murphy Non-Profit Housing Corporation and the Athlone Resource Centre have benefited from this offering.
PranaShanti offers Movie Nights with the viewing of movies by donation. Recent fund raising includes the offering of the movie “For the Next 7 generations – 13 Indigenous Grandmothers” in conjunction with the Ottawa Peace Festival and “10 Questions for the Dalai Lama” to support the Ottawa Friends of Tibet.
In the spirit of community and to support students becoming Yoga Teachers PranaShanti offers a Work Exchange and Scholarship Program for our Yoga Teacher Training Programs. We recognize that Yoga Teacher Training is a life commitment and it can also be costly. In 2009, 2 Work Exchange opportunities were made available and in 2010, we were able to expand the offering to 3 Work Exchanges and 5 Scholarships. Thereby enabling some students who may not have been able to afford the program to learn valuable teaching skills and further their personal development.
Additionally, PranaShanti provides an Energy Exchange program. In this program yoga students contribute their time and energy in exchange for yoga classes. Energy is given by the student towards cleaning the Yoga Centre space, postering, flyer delivery and helping at reception during larger events to guide guests to seating, serving refreshments and post event cleanup in exchange for the equivalent amount of class time. This opportunity helps those who could not otherwise afford to attend classes.

Yoga Studio Rooms
At PranaShanti we take your health, comfort and the environment to heart.
PranaShanti offers 4 hygienic Yoga Studio rooms. Each room is individually climate controlled with its own heat and cooling source, ventilation and filtration systems. The Body Room is maintained at a temperature of 105°F and provides even humid heat from state-of-art radiant ceiling panels. There is no blowing air, floating dust or furnace noise to disturb your practice. The Spirit, Soul and Mind Rooms are regular temperature studios.
There are no mirrors or mirrored walls in our Yoga Studio rooms. We believe that yoga is experienced from inside the body. Mirrors have a tendency to create comparison. Our teachers are skilled in providing adjustments and modifications, when required and/or requested, so your experience is yours alone.
Change Rooms
The Men’s and Women’s Change Rooms at PranaShanti are a Spa experience!
The Change Rooms are outfitted with individual lockers of varying sizes for storing and locking your clothes and valuables. If you forgot your lock we will happily provide you with one at Reception.
The showers are large and roomy with privacy drapes in the changing portion of the shower and complimentary organic Shower Gel is provided in each shower. Energy efficient hairdryers are permanently available in the Change Rooms.
Water Savings and Purification
In the Change Rooms, all showers have water filtration and the toilets and urinal are low water consumption units.
We offer pure UV filtered drinking water, electrolyte drink and iced tea from a energy efficient self-serve water system so you can refill your reusable sports bottle. This will help protect the environment by reducing the number of empty water bottles in the trash, eliminating bulk water delivery and water waste from other forms of treatment.
Cleaning and Paper Products
We use natural cleaning products for all of the PranaShanti’s cleaning including the rental mats. The products we use are hypo-allergenic and biodegradable.
All of our paper towels and paper drinking cups are made from post consumer recycled paper and are compostable.
Flooring
The flooring used in PranaShanti is a combination of all natural Cork (Spirit and Mind Rooms), Bamboo (Soul Room), Marmoleum (Reception, Boutique), Ceramic (Change Rooms, Bathrooms) and Vinyl (Body Room, Consultation and Sauna Rooms).
Bamboo is produced from an extremely fast growing grass and is therefore a renewable resource that is durable and long lasting.
Marmoleum is an all-natural linoleum that is hypoallergenic, easy to clean and exceptionally durable. It is made from linseed oil, pine resins, wood flour, flax, ground limestone and pigments.
Vinyl is used for its ability to withstand heat/humidity and ease of cleaning to maintain a hygienic space. All flooring in the Centre is washed daily to ensure the floors are free of bacteria.
“A home that heals your body, calms the mind and strengthens the spirit.”
