What Mark Will You Leave?
 
Leave it betterRalph Waldo Emerson wrote a poem on success. In it he said, "leave the world a bit better." That line has always stuck with me.  So how do you do it? How do you  "leave the world a bit better?"  Big or small, simple or complex, your choice, here's a few ideas:
 
-Give a percent of your income away to a charity to make your community better.
 
-Help out at a local community event.

-Save a % of your income to pass down to your family.

-Get involved in politics and play a role in our country's future.
 
-Purchase locally produced goods and buy from local vendors.
 
-Promote local businesses on your website or blog.
New Yoga Studio ~ "Yoga & Tea" is Opening Soon
 
Nina WelcomeMy dear friend, Nina Sidhu, is just about to open her new Yoga Centre in the village of Carp. 
 
If you live in the far west end or know someone who does, please spread the word. 
 
Nina is keeping the tradition of tea and cookies after class going at her centre, hence the name.
 
I hope you have the opportunity to check our her website, Yoga & Tea and even take in some classes or workshops.

Who could resist wanting to meditate in this cozy quinzee (snow hut)?  Heated by just candles, it is warm and inviting.  Hey, when you live in Ottawa, this is a great way to meditate in the Winter!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!
 
Although it may not feel like it right now, Spring will soon be here.  This month marks a number of springtime changes; the vernal equinox and daylight savings, just to name two.

Because of these changes we will soon have brighter evenings, a later sunset on the spring equinox and temperatures will be a bit warmer later in the day.  Without being too much like a weather reporter, it all sounds good after our long snowy winter.
 
But what if we didn't change the clocks forward or back at all during the year.  How would we feel, what would be the impact to our lives?  It's an interesting thought as many people and groups debate the pros and cons of the time change.
 
Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick's Day, a Happy Easter, a Happy Holi and an easy adjustment to the time change!

Recipe:  Kick Butt Molasses Cookies

Molasses Cookie The name is so right for these cookies.  This is a new favorite of mine.  Chewy texture and a great bold flavours!

1 cup brown sugar

¾  cup canola oil or any liquid vegetable shortening        

¼ cup Molasses

3 tablespoons egg substitute

2 ¼ cups unbleached all purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda           

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon     

1 teaspoon ground ginger

½ teaspoon ground cloves

¼ teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons unbleached Vegan sugar.

 

Directions: Heat oven to 325F. Mix brown sugar, oil, molasses and egg substitute in a large bowl with an electric mixer.  Stir in the rest of the ingredients except the Vegan sugar.

 

Make tablespoon size balls of dough and roll in the Vegan sugar. Then place 1-2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

 

Bake for 13-16 minutes or until set (appears dry) allow to cool on a wire rack.

  Crescent Moon

Join Alison (Devinder Kaur) for this special class that calls upon the transforming energy of the Waxing Moon.  During this time the energy of the body moves into the higher chakras.  This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

This date is also 11 days after the New Moon. Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance and the glandular system readjusts itself.

During this class we will use the tools of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation to tap into this energy to help bring change harmoniously into your life.

Relax with a 45 minute Gong Meditation.

Soothing & Sacred Sounds by Devinder Kaur

 
Guru Mantra CD"Echo" is a beautiful combination of guided relaxation and meditations for peace of heart and mind.  Devinder Kaur's soothing voice leads you into a seated posture or corpse pose relaxation with pranayam and a softly chanted Guru Ram Das mantra. 
 
The accompanying instrumentation of harmonium, gong, and overtone vocals further guide you into a deep state of relaxation.  The 3 Gong relaxation meditations are designed for peace of heart (heart chakra and mind (ajna and crown chakra) to bring relaxation and self-healing.
