The benefits of yoga

By Alison Finney

Why do yoga?

The short answer is that yoga makes you feel better. What's more, regular yoga practice:

• Improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina;
• Reduces stress and tension;
• Boosts self-esteem;
• Improves concentration and creativity;
• Burns calories;
• Improves circulation;
• Stimulates the immune system; and
• Creates a sense of well-being and calm.

Practising the yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayam) and meditation makes you healthier in mind, body and soul. Yoga lets you tune in, chill out and shape up -- all at the same time.
